The entry level medical assistant position provides the opportunity to begin a career in the medical assisting profession.

As an entry-level medical assistant, you will need an impressive resume to convince employers to give you the chance to show you can be effective and efficient on the job with little supervision.

In this article, we shall show you how to prepare your resume yourself using a resume format with four sections, namely objective statement, core competence, job experience, and educational qualification.

The young medical assistant at the entry level does not really have experience to show, however, other experiences such as internship, school projects, and voluntary work can be used in highlighting their competence, skills, dedication to duty, and other attributes employers are interested in.

So, let’s look at how to complete the various sections, beginning with the objective statement:

The Entry Level Medical Assistant Objective Section

The objective section of an entry level medical assistant resume is your golden opportunity to impress on the minds of your prospective employers; your knowledge of their exact major needs and your requisite talent and training to deliver. Use this section to clearly convey the attributes that stand you out among other applicants.

The objective section, if properly used, will grab the attention of your prospective employers. Using the medical industry as our case study, medical institutions give preference to applicants who have a comprehensive healthcare training, administrative skills, great communication skills, and ability to perform basic medical task like collecting samples for test, prepare injections and medical concoctions.

If your objective statement properly conveys these values, you stand a better chance than those whose resumes don’t.

Examples of Entry Level Medical Assistant Objective Statements for Resume:

The examples below will help you understand better and also serve as a guide in writing the objective section of your resume.

  • Seeking entry level medical assistant position in XYZ medical institution where my comprehensive healthcare training, administrative skills, great communication skills, and ability to perform basic medical tasks like collecting samples for test and preparing injections will enormously benefit your institution if employed.
  • Seeking the job of entry level medical assistant in a growing medical institution where my valuable comprehensive healthcare training, administrative skills, and one year internship experience will certainly improve efficiency in operations.

The first example above is suitable only for situations where the objective statement is targeted at a specific and known institution where such vacancy for entry level medical assistant position exists. Otherwise, refer to the second which is more generic and covers the whole medical industry.

The next part is the core competence section, which deals with the skills and other qualities needed to perform excellently as medical assistant:

Core Competence Section

In this section of the resume, you will highlight the qualities you have that stand you out for the role of medical assistant at the entry level; key talents, knowledge, abilities and experience you received on school project or working as an intern, should be highlighted here.

Skills like computer literacy, basic medical procedures, administrative ability, and ability to operate some medical equipment like x-ray machines can easily stand you out. Medical field has to do with life, so only the best hands are brought on board.

Following the core competence section is the one where you need to show the employer relevant medical assistant duties you have carried out:

Work Experience

The work experience section, also referred to as professional experience, or work history is where employers tend to verify the capabilities of applicants. They feel tested hands are trusted hands.

However, when it comes to the entry level medical assistant position, the little time in internship can serve as the applicant’s work experience. So use this section to state the duties and responsibilities you have carried out within that time.

You can also use your experience working on school projects and/or as a volunteer worker in a medical setting to complete this section.

To help you complete this section, you can use the job description for an intern position provided you have actually worked as an intern and that it reflects your true experience.

Now we get to the final part of the resume, the professional qualification section:

Professional Qualification

In this section, you are required to state your educational qualifications and all completed training programs that qualifies you to work as a medical assistant.
