Postal worker resume example
Getting a postal worker job is easier when you present a great resume to employers.

A good resume is an important document to have when searching for a postal worker job.

This is so because to get the job, you will need to first get the attention of the employer for them to give you an appointment for an interview.

A great resume will help you to get that very important interview where you will be able to show the employer why you are the best postal worker they should hire.
Now, let’s look at how you can make a good resume for the job of postal worker that can greatly increase your chances with employers and hiring managers.

Let’s start with the resume format you can adopt:

What Resume Format is Best?

And the simple answer is that there is no “best resume format”. You can have various resume formats to choose from and they are all okay.

The important thing to have in mind is how well you are able to present each section of the format you decide to use, such that the employer should be captivated and should want to have a chat with you at an interview after reading your resume.

For this guide on how you can prepare a great resume to use in seeking a job as postal worker, we will work with a resume format that consists of four sections aimed at presenting the owner’s objective for wanting the job; his/her core competence that will enable him/her to be effective on the job; his/her past or current experience working in the same or similar position; and his/her professional qualifications and other relevant training programs he/she must have completed.

An excellent presentation of the sections of the resume will result in highly effective resume!

So, let’s see how each of the sections can be created to get the reader’s attention, starting with the objective section:

The Postal Worker Resume Objective Section

This section presents your first contact with the employer, so give it your biggest shot. First impressions are deep and lasting; achieve a good first impression by aptly communicating your capacity to deliver as a postal worker if hired.

The objective section is the right place to impress it on the mind of your prospective employers that you know what is important to them and that you can deliver that value if given a chance.

Make them know that your objective for wanting to be a postal worker in their company is to meet their major need. Every employer is looking for the employee who would add value to their company; make sure your objective statement communicates that.

Using the courier industry as an example, employers seek to hire only postal workers who possess qualities such as: accuracy and speed in sorting mails, careful attention to details, and energy in the movement of bulk cargo and mail delivery.

An understanding of postage procedures like collection of postage-due fees, and signed receipts for registered, certified, and insured mail, is also a basic requirement that most employers look out for in postal workers they seek to hire.

So coin an effective objective statement that reflects these qualities, and you would have made a good head start.

Let’s see two examples of postal worker objective statement:

Postal Worker Objective Examples for Resume:

Here are a few examples to guide you in writing an effective objective section in your resume as a postal worker:

  • Seeking the position of postal worker in XYZ Post Office where my accuracy and speed in sorting mails, careful attention to details, energetic movement of bulk cargo and mail delivery, and in-depth understanding of postage procedures, like collection of postage-due fees and signed receipts for registered, certified, and insured mail, will be employed.
  • Looking for the job of postal worker in a growing courier company where my many years of experience in mail delivery and postage procedures, working in a post office, will be needed in achieving efficiency and increased patronage.

Please take note that the first example is only applicable when the resume is targeted specifically to a firm where a vacancy exist for the position, unlike the second objective statement that is more generic for the courier industry.

Having completed the objective statement section, the next section would be the one where you need to present the skills and other qualities that would enable you to be a top performer as a postal worker:

Core Competence Section

In this section, you are required to highlight the key talents, skills, knowledge, abilities, and experience that make you the ideal postal worker to employ.

Consider your resume as a selling tool, selling your services to a potential employer. The same way you check the label on a canned food to be sure of what you are eating, a prospective employer will look at your ‘label’, which is your core competencies, to be sure they are bringing in someone that will add value to their organization.

What abilities do you possess that could make their life easier? Accuracy and speed in sorting mails? Is it your careful attention to details? Or is it your energy in the movement of bulk cargo? Whatever it is, ensure you state it in this section and leave nothing out; as long as it’s useful.

The next section that follows the competence section is the one where you need to show the employer how much experience you have acquired working as a postal worker:

Work Experience

The work experience section is another crucial part of your resume where your abilities are verified. This section is also sometimes called the professional experience or work history section.

Naturally, employers prefer experienced hands to fresher because experience minimizes error. And verification is just a phone call away.

Here, state the duties and responsibilities that you have performed or are presently carrying out that are relevant to the job of a postal office.

It is advisable to use a copy of the postal worker job description when writing this section as long as the duties and responsibilities highlighted in it represent your exact experience.

And please ensure that all the verbs used in writing your current work description are in present tense while the position held before is described in past tense.
And next is the section where you need to state the relevant education and training programs you have completed that qualify you for the post:

Professional Qualification

In this part of the resume, you are to highlight the educational qualifications and any completed training program that qualify you to work and be effective as a postal worker.
