To improve your chances of getting a plumber job against the competition that exists in the job market, you will need to have a good resume prepared and sent to prospective employers.

Starting with the format

There are several formats in which resumes can be presented, and no format is actually more effective than the other in terms of helping to get an interview or the job.

What makes the difference is how well you are able to project the different sections of the format you are using to get the reader to believe you are the right person for the job.

For this post, we will work with the format with four sections, which clearly inform your prospective employer of your qualification, core competence and experience garnered so far as a plumber.

Completing the first part of the resume: the Objective section

The Plumber Resume Objective Section

The objective section provides the best chance for you to make a good first impression on the reader, so you need to give it your best shot.

You need to be seen by your prospective employer as the right person for the job by coining an objective statement that shows the exceptional value you would offer if giving the job.

You need to communicate your passion and expertise when it comes to plumbing.

It is important to realize that the objective section is your first contact with the employer, so make the most of it.

You should not fail to impress your passion and capacity to deliver on the job if hired on the minds of the employer.

Construction companies are looking for plumbers who are both talented and experienced in pipe section assembling, tubing and fitting, application of modern techniques and equipment, and those with the ability to accurately specify required materials and work procedure that fits any building plan, as well as those who have the capacity for detailed record keeping.

If you have those skills and abilities, you need to flaunt it them in your objective statement.
It is becoming a common trend for employers in the building industry to specify in their advertisement; the exact major requirement and job description for their ideal plumber.

Use this information in writing an objective statement that appeal to their major need and you will be standing head and shoulder above many other applicants.

Here are objective statement examples for plumbers:

Plumber Objective Example for Resume

Examples should make it clearer. Here are some examples to also serve as a guide in crafting a strong objective section in your plumber resume.

  • Seeking the position of plumber in XYZ Construction company where my outstanding ability to assemble pipe section, tubing and fitting; using modern techniques and equipment, accurately specify required materials and work procedure that fits any building plan, and to do detailed record keeping will be employed.
  • Seeking the job of plumber in a growing building and construction company where my many years of experience in plumbing, even on commercial scale working in a construction company, will be invaluable in achieving impeccable plumbing that guarantees clients’ satisfaction.

Please take note: the first example only applies when making an objective statement with a specific and known company in mind, where such vacancies exist. Otherwise, refer to the second that is generic for the building industry.

Now, the second section where your competence for the job should be highlighted:

Core Competence Section

Here, you are expected to briefly highlight what stands you out as a plumber; key talents, skills, knowledge, abilities, and experience that make you competent for the job.

Some people ignore some of their exceptional qualities because they have not been able to associate it with plumbing.

Let that not be you! Qualities like record keeping, cost estimation, and ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision should not be left out. It could be the joker!

So, combine the most needed plumbing skills like pipe assembling and using of couplings with the ‘less needed’ ones, like bookkeeping, and your core competence section would be more attractive.

The next is the section that emphasizes your plumbing experience:

Work Experience

The work experience section, which some prefer to call professional experience or work history, is where prospective employers usually verify the claims of your promising resume.

Experience is an enhancer of skill. Employers in the building industry naturally rate experience over talent.

So use this section to state the duties and responsibilities that you have performed, or are currently performing that are relevant to the job of a plumber.

To make the most of this section, it is advisable to use a copy of the plumber job description when writing this section, provided the duties and responsibilities in it reflect your true experience. Let it be a guide.

And please, ensure all verbs used in describing your current work activities are in present tense while the position held before stays in past tense.

The last section provides the opportunity to state your qualifications for the job:

Professional Qualification

In this section, your educational qualifications and all completed training programs that qualify you as a plumber should be clearly stated.
